My favorite burrito bar to hang out in Baton Rouge. I love going there and splitting the grande nachos with everything on them. They put every other nacho in Baton Rouge to shame! Also, I love how they have the "skinny" margaritas and daquiris. Their patio is awesome and the new renovations are awesome!

I was hugging the toilet and I loved it. I want this drink so badly, not to the toilet extent.. but it was amazing and just think, calories?! What calories...! If I lived here, I'd be a frequent flyer, sheesh it was damn good.

If I go, it's gotta be right before they close. Otherwise, they're way too busy for my tastes. I'm not a crowd person.

The best location with the best patio. Good food and even better bar. One of the women bartenders makes my favorite bloody mary. Whenever I want to enjoy good weather and have a drink, Zippy's is always my go-to

  • Robert R.

Their margaritas are super weak, and have little flavor. Kind of a limey shaved ice deal. The food looked ok, but I didn't try it. Pricing was kinda off, cheap on some things expensive on others. I wouldn't go back. If you want good margaritas and food in br, go to Ahuuas.

Honestly, I really wished I like Zippy's food..it's conveniently close to my house and they have great drink specials...but unless I'm a couple margarita's in or have no other late night option, I stay away from their food. Don't get my wrong, their daquiri's are fantastic (we usually stop in and pick one up before we tailgate) and they have great beer specials but their food is just so so. I've tried their burrito's, nachos, enchilada's...but I'm never satisfied. Honestly, Izzo's is much better and worth the extra few minutes of a drive.

Stopped in here while in the area.. Open late and super strong drinks. Ordered the frozen top shelf margarita... nice! I'm not too much of a frozen drink person. So my next one I asked for on the rocks and dude poured it up super strong!! Had to take it to go. Didn't try the food. Looked alright though. I'll be back thru next time in town. It's always good to know the late night spots.

+5 for Delicious Daquaris!!! Our cousin stopped here and picked up drinks to-go for the whole family. We enjoyed every single one and I will be back next trip for sure!

  • Adam C.

Visited here plenty of times in college and always enjoyed it. Food line usually moves pretty quickly. To me the food is a little overpriced for what they deliver, and watching them prepare it with little care doesn't help. Drinks are good. Can be fun for bigger groups, but you've got to be early and aggressive when it comes to chairs and tables. Overall I like it. Cool atmosphere.

I can only echo two of the above reviewers: I wish I liked their food more, and it's too expensive. Every dish seems dispiritingly monochromatic, and I sort of wince at paying more than $10 for a standard-sized burrito and a fountain drink. It pains me to admit that Izzo's is probably a better value for the money. But, these shortcomings not withstanding, Zippy can't fall below four stars, for its location, outdoor seating, and independent zeal. Oh, and the daiquiris. It was the first place I was ever asked whether I wanted my margarita "for here or to-go". EDIT (four years later): Re-reading my review, it sounds far too negative. I miss Zippy's!

  • Kit F.

Food is so-so and a bit over priced, but the ritas and outdoor atmosphere are great and worth a visit.

  • Steve M.

Love this place. It is just a plain ol fun place to go. I love the Cuban Burrito.

    (4)
  • Chad C.

The burritos were acceptable, not outstanding, but the two star rating is due to their margaritas. As I ate my burrito at the bar, I saw their method of making "on the rocks" margaritas involved VODKA. What the hell! I suppose it is a way for them to skimp on the more expensive tequila without patrons complaining that their drinks are too weak. Essentially they are making their own mixto tequila by combining 100% agave with neutral spirits. What a disappointment!

It's Friday night. All you want in life is a ginormous burrito, some chips, a vat of chipotle ranch dressing to dip them in, a towering magarita in one of several flavors, and a few great friends to share it all with. If this sounds familiar, Zippy's is the place for you. And if you go, say hey to all my fam and friends -- they're the local yokels taking over the place every Friday. They're nice people; I swear!

    (5)
  • Knick M.

Great late night, post party food. It's the only place I know of to get decent fish tacos in Baton Rouge. Try them with the chipotle sauce and corn & black bean salsa. If you want high end mexican go somewhere else, this place excels at what it is. A late night recovery food stop.

    (3)
  • Morgan M.

Greasy Tex-Mex. Are you drunk? Do you have quick access to a restroom? Then you'll have a good time at Zippy's. Tasty top-shelf margaritas but the house variety tastes kinda like cleaning solution. The building is the best part- I think it used to be a gas station or quick-lube. They did a great job converting it.

    (2)
  • Wendy D.

Great margaritas, food is pretty good. Fun place to go late at night.

    (3)
  • Brian D.

Super greasy and a bit too expensive Tex-Mex. Great atmosphere though, and if you don't mind a painful bowel movement later, go for it.

I'm a pretty big fan of Zippy's! Their chips, salsa, and queso are yummy, and I also love their tacos and quesadillas! Zippy's uses your basic roll-you-own set up for pretty much all of their menu items, so they come out pretty similar to what you can get at Izzo's or Chipotle. The thing I like best about Zippy's is their patio. I love sitting out there during summer evenings and enjoying a frozen beverage, and I also love that it is covered and can be closed in when it's cold or rainy. Plus, if you are a sports fan, your event is bound to be on one of the TVs, which are both in the indoor seating/bar area and the patio area.

  • Jodi A.

I have no idea what they put in their food but everything I've ever tried makes me want to come back for more and more. They have really good food, even better margaritas and all for a great price. The outdoor patio sets a great atmosphere. Want to watch the game? They have televisions for your viewing pleasure. The only down side would be parking and getting out of their parking lot. Parking is hard because there aren't many spots and DON'T try to make a left on parking unless you have ninja speed and/or you've been looking for a new car and don't mind possibly getting in an accident. The chance of an accident is worth the food though. Lol!

  • Jessica A.

Zippy's is my go-to cheap and dirty (actually pretty clean) Mexican spot. It's always busy unless you go right before closing, but I'm sure that has to do with the delicious daiquiris and margaritas they serve. I could live off of the chips and queso, always good in my opinion! I've also had the tacos, flautas, and quesadillas...all good choices. Overall it's a fun atmosphere for gamedays with all the tv screens everywhere and the patio is nice when it's not too hot out. Fast service, cheap and yummy food, always a win in my book.

I wanted this to be a great spot SO BAD. I work downtown and there are no mexican places in that area...unless a food truck makes it a point to post up. I LOVE Mexican food, so Zippy's seemed convenient and I really hoped to make it a regular lunch spot. womp. womp. First, their lunch special is not a speacial at all. It reads well. 2 tacos, chips and salsa for $6.65. Honestly for this amount of food...they need to go ahead and make it $5 cuz once you add a drink for $1.95, you're paying $9.37 (which includes tax). So right then I knew I could not make this spot a regular. I ordered steak tacos. What a HUGEdisappointment! The steak was burned. And the chips were stale! Instead of them breaking apart with a nice crunch, I had to literally pry them apart with my teeth. Hell, even as I write this now I wonder "how have they stayed in business????" Somebody...anybody could open a better spot close by and be successful if Zippy's is their competition. Oh, and did I mention sour cream and guac is extra. Seriously? Considering their location, I would think they're catering to students and working folks who want to grab something quick but tasty. They need to rework their prices and hire better cooks.

Great casual atmosphere for adults and kids. The outdoor patio is perfect for watching a game. Great chips and queso. Also recommend the flautas and the El Juan. Great frozen margaritas and drink specials.

Super huge and yummy burritos! They offer free chips and salsa with purchase Great place to go with friends. Heated\enclosed patio.

This place was really good. We stopped here on our way to New Orleans. It is a casual, college kid kind of place. LSU was playing in the NCAA baseball tournament so it was full of people watch the game. We were hesitant, being from Texas, eating TexMex in Baton Rouge but food was good.

  • Chantelle B.

This is my first time eating here and I must say I'm pretty impressed. I had a gift card to the place so I figured, hey, why not. The people were incredibly friendly; they said, and I quote, "you can do whatever you want here!" That was quite the warm embrace! Their service is definitely 5 star. The service isn't the only thing that's good; their food is delicious. I got The Baja burrito (a chicken burrito with a good number of toppings) and it is amazing! The chicken tastes very homemade which is awesome when it comes to Mexican food. All meals also come with chips and salsa. The food I'd say is a 4.5. Not a perfect 5 because it isn't exactly filled with flavor (then again, I may not have put all the right toppings on!) but the salsa is very good. Overall I stick with my 5 stars. Compared to some Mexican places this place is good with price and taste.

Zippy's has to be one of my favorite places in Baton Rouge-- if you're in the mood for a super strong drink and some greasy Tex Mex (which I often am), this is the place to be. Their margaritas are just great and they also have mixed drinks, daiquiris, beer, etc. The food is good too-- I disagree with whoever said it is like Taco Bell... I love the chimichangas and the nachos are huge with so many delicious toppings and tons of queso. The staff is friendly and there are also plenty of televisions if you want to catch a game. The only annoying thing about Zippy's is the tiny parking lot! You usually have to park under the overpass which usually isn't a big deal but when it's raining it can be a mess.

    (4)
  • Clay J.

Standard casual Tex mex options, done in a better than average way. Some of The serving sizes are enough for two people. The pork chimichanga is my go to dish. They have a descent number of frozen alcoholic drinks, but you have to pay for it separate from the food, which is a small hassle.

    (4)
  • Jackie D.

You can never go wrong with Zippy's. Sure, it's a little divey and the parking situation sucks but that's the unfortunate consequence for such an amazing location. Great drink specials, good selection, and their skinny margarita actually doesn't suck - a rarity for those that enjoy such things. If you are feeling peckish, the chips and salsa/guac/queso are a perfect snack. If you are feeling ravenous, the only thing I have ever ordered because it's THAT good is the pork burrito with coleslaw and queso. Man oh man, my favorite combination IN A BURRITO. To drink, to eat, to take-out after a crazy day, it's an all-ages favorite in the overpass neighborhood for counter service Mexican food.

  • Mandy V.

The food is not super awesome but it is pretty good. I give the food 3 stars. The extra star comes from the lively atmosphere and the fun and helpful staff. I went here to grab a bite with friends on NYE. To my surprise they had a DJ and cleared the tables in the bar area and turned it into a dance floor. We all ate outside. Shot girls made rounds which was nice because we didn't have to get up. When we were done eating we hung out and danced in the bar area. They had triple wells for 5 bucks! Pretty awesome. We all were having such a good time no one wanted to leave.

I love Zippy's. I love to sit out on the patio, especially this time of year. The food is always fresh and very tasty. The margaritas are supreme. Zippy's is a great place to just hang with friends or bring the family. I usually get the quesadillas or the nacho's and both are always great. Plenty enough to share!

  • Jeremy B.

Wasn't impressed at all, heard a lot of good things but food wasn't good. Drinks were awesome tho!!!

  • Michael P.

Praise be to Zippy's for actually re-purposing an old structure (a phenomenon rarely seen in this nouveau town) and doing a great job of it. I was a big fan of the 'build your own' concept when it was new and growing, but I've changed my mind 180 degrees. This critique applies not only to this place, but Izzo's and all the others like it. The meat tastes like chemicals. There is just too much lost in the process of preparing the chunks of beef, chicken, pork, whatever for quick bulk preparation and presentation for it not to jump out of the finished product. Set up a grill where the entree meats are freshly prepared, and this is a great quick dining option, but until then . . .

There are many Tex-Mex places in Baton Rouge and Zippy's is by far the best one to enjoy a plate of nachos, have a cold beer, sit out on the patio on a warm Louisiana evening. The food is always fresh and their lunch specials are awesome and very cheap! They also serve SUPER cheap margaritas and beer. Everyone that works there is always in a good mood and enjoys saying hello. They close at 3:00 AM on the weekends which is convenient sometimes. I strongly recommend this place if you're looking for a casual hang out with good food, drinks, TV's and lots of room for you and your friends to have a good time.

    (5)
  • Nick M.

A lot like Izzo's except just a tiny bit better all around (taste of food, atmosphere, menu selection). Their huge tv's are a plus, as is their outdoor seating area. Still ridiculously overpriced for what you get though. For the money, I'd rather go to a real Mexican restaurant for lunch

    (3)
  • Leo P.

Nice Mexican restaurant in the Perkins overpass area. Baton Rouge isn't known for its Mexican but this place is pretty good. Lots of seating outside and TVs everywhere to watch a game. I like coming here on Sunday afternoons to enjoy the nice weather. The daiquiris here are excellent as well.

My husband and I went after reading good reviews. This place SUCKS ! Sucks is all I can say. Yuck

  • Gabriel O.

Food is ok, but the people that work the line can't roll a burrito for anything. They make me feel like I'm a burden to them for just being there. The bar tender couldn't count and she was on her phone while there were only 3 of us waiting for drinks. The second time we went back to the bar, she was too busy talking with her friends to give us service. This place doesn't know how to hire people. That shows me it's a management problem.

    (1)
  • Chris P.

It took me 11 months to make my way to Zippy's and my only regret now is that I didn't come sooner. This place doesn't have the best reputation, but I enjoyed it for many reasons. Good food, nice service, great outdoor seating, nice beer selection, and good drink specials. I look forward to coming back here often, especially during World Cup.

    (5)
  • Brad V.

Pretty good food, have yet to get something I did not like. It's basically one of those burrito/taco line places like Chipotle/Izzos. The atmosphere is a little more bar like, especially at night. They have a indoor open patio area that's nice to sit at on a pleasant day.

    (3)
  • Christy F.

I can't leave less than one star. This place was absolute garbage. Everything was cold off the line. Canned corn. Everything was flavorless. How this place is still open is beyond me. Oh they are still open bc of hipster goobers who say it's good. Blah. They are famous for being open late and their sugar bomb gross margaritas. I expected more from a local place. Not to mention somehow it cost more than $35 for two adults to eat, WITHOUT sodas or alcohol. Abomination.

Long story short, we were treated like crap (by the kitchen manager and other kitchen worker) and our food was sneezed on in the most unappealing manner. Now for the long story : I have been going to Zippy's for years mostly to meet friends, sit on the patio, enjoy a drink and potentially some nachos (no longer). My friends and I are known by most of the workers and even some of the other regulars. Recently, I went with two of those friends around 11:30 pm to get a late dinner and I have never been treated so poorly by a waitstaff. I want to make clear that it was not the bartenders who were rude, rather the kitchen manager and a worker. Upon our arrival, we were immediately treated as though we were coming in 5 minutes before close (they close at 3 am on Friday nights). I went first to order these nachos and the kitchen manager, who I have met numerous times and even hung out with, helped me and had beyond a sour attitude. I won't get into every detail, but everything that I, a paying customer, asked for was beyond a burden for him. Not only was he rude, but he openly sneezed on my nachos as well as all of the other ingredients that are set out in the open. When I say he sneezed on them, I am not being dramatic - no turning around and sneezing into his arm, hand, napkin - this was a sneeze explosion directed onto the open food. Yummy. My two other friends went after me and the other guy helped them. Mirroring the customer treatment from his manager, this worker was equally rude to us. After getting our food we went to the bar and asked one of the bartenders, who we know, if we did something wrong and why these two guys were acting like that. The bartender told us that the two kitchen workers told him they just decided to be rude to us because they thought we were drunk. I will say this - I will go hangout and drink with friends at Zippy's, but I will never eat there again - for health code reasons as well as the principle of paying a company for a service and being treated so poorly.

Love this place! The queso is my favorite! Love the quesadillas(chicken is my favorite). Great drink prices! Love the patio, great for hanging out with friends or to watch a game!

Baton Rouge does not have any good Mexican restaurants but they have pretty good fish tacos. Plus it is a great place for kids and dogs. Also I would imagine that it is a great place after a night of drinking.

  • Gregory S.

Went inside, the place needs a good cleaning, besides that everything is open, I am sure that there is a cock roach in the sauce. Anyway, the guy at the register suddenly left me waiting, I took the chance to leave this drunk food place.

Only because we couldn't put zero stars. Horrible interpretation of Mexican food. Don't walk, run elsewhere. My wife's crawfish enchilada lunch special tasted old and stale. Fortunately she stopped and left 90% of it on the plate before she got sick. I had the steak chimichanga and it had 2 major faults. The steak tasked like roast beef in debris, not skirt steak as one would expect. Second it was chewy, not crunchy, like a Chimichanga should. Cute place, looked cool, lots of drink specials. But as far as the food goes, I would just go elsewhere. ANYWHERE...

  • Kimberly A.

Everytime I pass this place my lips pucker and I drive as fast as I can past the sign. I would have done better going to Winn Dixie and getting a frozen burrito and heating it up at home. The service was not the best either. The girl at the counter got some of the food on her hand and instead of attempting to find a towel or going wash her hands, she just slid her hand along the underside of the counter and went about her way. Never again.

If you are looking for authentic Mexican food zippys is not the place to go. If you are looking for cheap drinks you cannot beat the triple drinks for $5 Food it's OK, comes from a can or a frozen box, but at least don't try to sell it as fresh authentic Mexican food and the price is right. Lots of parking space, it's a college favorite $5 large daiquiri

I had passed this restaurant a lot but never been here. One day when my dad and I were hunting for a place to eat lunch, I noticed the parking lot wasn't too busy so I decided to pull in. I'm glad I did. The menu contains all of the traditional Mexican options, and there is a lunch menu as well. I got the 2 chicken enchiladas which came with rice, beans, and chips and salsa. I'm not a huge fan of beans, so I doubled up on the rice. Also, I really would have preferred ground beef enchiladas but that was not an option. She told me I could get cheese enchiladas and they'd put ground beef on top for me, but that just didn't seem the same. All in all, the price came to under $10 even after I ordered a drink, which was a great surprise. The chicken enchiladas were very good and I loved how the order came with chips and salsa. The rice was only okay. There were some hard pieces that seemed a bit under cooked in the rice, which kind of ruined the rest of the rice which was fine. The ambience was fun. There was cool stuff on the walls and the TVs had on a multitude of sports networks. This restaurant seems to fall somewhere between Taco Bell and (insert generic chain Mexican restaurant here). I definitely see myself returning here for lunch from time to time.

This one was a surprise. I comfortably ignored this one and would go to the ones near by. It has interesting Mexican-American items on its menu Portions are huge. Their chimaga is great and it could amount to be a fatty wholesome meal. But the service is just okay. Nothing great

    (3)
  • Brent A.

This is a fun hangout with above average food. The atmosphere is conducive to kids because no one cares how loud you get, you're outside. It's also good for late night snacks after you've had one too many. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Zippy's has the best refried beans around. The fish tacos are excellent. The empanadas and chimichangas are good too. Zippy's has a nice array of frozen beverages to cool you down or a handful of beers to choose from on tap. There are plenty of tvs and the people are always cordial.

A good ole college bar for cheap Mexican and Margs. First stop at LSU and perfect depiction of a college boozy dinner. A large taco salad is huge; I was able to finish it only because I hadn't eaten much all day. Frozen margaritas are strong! There are many different flavors, but I was satisfied with a skinny (based on reviews of course) because it wasn't as sugary as the other flavors- which made the others harder to finish. Great drink specials, not a clean place though. Come for the alcohol and to get full off of cheap Mexican fare.

Hate to downgrade to 1 star, but July 4, 2015, ordered a Cuban and got food poisoning. The kitchen and food counter, which you can see when you order your food, never appeared to the the most sanitary, and it obviously isn't. They should be required to post a "Eat Here At Your Own Risk" sign.

So here's the thing about Zippy's: it's not the best food you'll ever have. But it's quite good at what it does. And by "it" I mean creating a space where you can sit around outside and drink daiquiris. Having recently moved to Baton Rouge from Arizona, I've been spoiled when it comes to Mexican food, and I found the food pretty underwhelming. That said, there's unlimited refills on chips and salsa, which go nicely with their daiquiris and beer. Add a dog friendly patio and sports on TV to the mix, and Zippy's is a great place to hang out for a bit, nom some food, and enjoy drinks and the latest game.

  • Jared P.

Zippys... It's a pretty catchy name to say the least. As you approach the building you noticed an outdoor space that has a good amount of seating. What I enjoyed about dining outside was the fact that it has televisions as well as a really cool fountain with old alcohol bottles. I thought it was very appealing to the eye. As far as the food goes it was just mediocre. It wasn't bad but it wasn't over the top. I do enjoy the fact that you have the option to choose between burrito sizes. Each burrito comes with a really good amount of chips as well as salsa. That is definitely a bonus in my book. The pricing here is pretty fair. I would say it's competitive with somewhere like chipotle. All in all I could see myself coming back here to give it another try and give a final decision on whether or not I want it to become a regular spot for me. +3 stars for the really relaxed atmosphere. The ability to choose burrito sizes and the fact that you get chips in salsa. -2 stars for the mediocre food as well as the okay customer service. Like I said I would like to come back here one more time to make a final decision. That way I would know if I want to recommend this food place to others.

Stopped in Zippys with coworkers in Baton Rouge and ordered a drink called the "RedNeck" wow that was a something. So much alcohol I can't understand how anyone can finish one. This is a great college hangout, heavy alcohol and cheap greasy food, a great combination.

  • Brittany B.

When I first walked in I went straight for the bar and got a skinny bitch drink. It taste like Splenda in a weird way so I switched to beer after. People that work there are super great and friendly. Food is decent I got the chicken nachos. And the atmosphere and outside seating is really relaxing. It's a fun place to bring your dog and your friends for sure. Food isn't anything to rave about but it's a place to have a good time. And bathrooms are clean

  • Jando S.

The fact this place is called Zippy's should erase any expectation of finding the next great holy grail of authentic Mexican food in Baton Rouge. Instead, come with the idea of eating some Latin inspired comfort food within the confines of sports on TVs and bangin' margaritas. Suddenly a fun time at Zippy's doesn't sound so crazy. On the interior, it's about as no frills as one might expect. Concrete floor with some patio furniture, taxidermy decor, a daiquiri machine, and some neon signage? Yep, sounds about right. The patio is probably one of the more rowdy parts of the venue. Be nice to the college aged kids at the counter, they'll be making your food. Start the evening by figuring out if Zippy's is playing the game you're looking to catch. Whether it's a major sporting event or a local LSU airing, more than likely they'll be featuring it. In addition to the games, they've always got some special running with their drinks. Check their Facebook to see the deal, which varies from beer promotions to $3 Patron shots. Oh my. Then there is the food. The idea of getting a little tanked from the drinks might automatically mean the food is extra delicious. Eating it sober might elicit a few reactions (or simply none at all), but there are some standouts: * Fish tacos. Get em grilled and make sure the tortilla is loaded. Nothing is quite as infuriating as a skimpy fish taco. * Nachos. For the drinks and the people at your table. Naturally. Lastly, beware of the chimichangas or enchiladas. I'm not saying chef microwave put together the food, but the neither plate was worth a bite.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization.
